RMV On-Demand: A Review of Environmentally Friendly Mobility Solutions in the Rhein-Main Area

The RMV On-Demand service presents a contemporary approach to mobility within the Rhein-Main region, augmenting traditional bus and train services with all-electric, digital shuttles that operate on an on-demand basis. This initiative is designed to address the growing need for flexible transportation options, particularly in areas less serviced by conventional public transport.

This service allows users to book rides conveniently through an app, which relays information on vehicle availability and estimated pick-up times. The shuttles provide direct transport to individual destinations or convenient connections from bus or train stations, promoting accessibility and efficiency.

The RMV On-Demand app is operational in four designated areas:

• Limburg
• Hofheim
• Kelsterbach
• Idstein

Users can easily verify which districts fall under each service area via the app interface.

The booking process is straightforward:

1. Enter your start and destination addresses. This provides immediate information on vehicle options available for your pick-up.
2. Book your ride. The app will guide you to a nearby stop for pick-up and allows you to track your vehicle in real-time as it approaches.
3. Pay in the app. The service integrates with existing public transportation fares, with a nominal surcharge displayed during booking. Users may choose their preferred payment method directly within the app.
4. Rate your ride. After arriving at a virtual drop-off point, users can navigate to their final destination through the app and provide feedback on their experience.

This initiative, "On-Demand Mobility for the Frankfurt/Rhein-Main Region," is one of Europe’s most extensive on-demand transportation projects. By incorporating zero-emission shuttles to fill gaps in public transport, it notably enhances sustainable mobility efforts in the area.

Backed by the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, as well as the State of Hessen, RMV collaborates with ten partners to forge this innovative transportation solution for residents and visitors alike in the Rhein-Main region.
